Copy Editing

Price: US$0.004 per word

Copy editing focuses on improving clarity, accuracy, consistency, and overall readability, through paragraph and sentence-level editing. It requires an in-depth review of each line of the manuscript, and looks at aspects such as:

Grammar, language, and syntax.
Clarity of expression, including awkward or confusing sentences, phrases, and paragraphs.
Repetitious words and phrases.
Spelling, punctuation, hyphenation, italics, quotations, dialogue, and word choice.
Factual errors and potential copyright or legal issues.
Consistency of characterisation, internal details, style, tone, voice, and formatting.
Compliance with style guide and author’s wishes.

Proofreading

Price: US$0.0025 per word

Proofreading is the final step in the editing process and is designed to prevent any minor errors which may remain from slipping through. It requires an in-depth review of each paragraph, sentence, and individual word, and focuses on details like:

Spelling and grammar, tense, agreement, parallel structure, missing or extra words.
Punctuation, including correct use of hyphens, en dashes, em dashes, apostrophes, and quotation marks.
Word choice, word usage, and word order.
Homophones, homonyms, prepositions, and pronouns.
Formatting, including font inconsistencies, spaces between words, and paragraph indentation.
Stylistic consistency, including capitalisation, spelling of proper nouns, treatment of numbers and titles, and adherence to US or UK conventions.

Copy Editing and Proofreading Bundle

Price: US$0.0055 per word

This bundle includes a full copy edit, and a final proofread after you have had time to review and make any necessary changes.

I’m happy to provide a free sample for first time clients, if requested, and I don’t charge any extra for tight deadlines.

All edits and suggestions will be made in Microsoft Word using Track Changes and Comments, or Google Docs.

I offer competent adherence to either US or UK English conventions, dependent on your preference.

My commitment to you doesn’t end when I return your manuscript either. As part of my service, I’ll be available for any questions, post-edit conversations, or simple chats you may need to get your book as perfect as it can be.
